Country Parks

The Lancashire Countryside Service looks after and manages two Country Parks in the County, Beacon Fell near Goosnargh and Wycoller near Colne.

There are more than 250 country parks in the country attracting some 57 million visitors per year playing valuable roles in delivering countryside programmes relating to objectives of:

  • conserving and enhancing the countryside;
  • providing and promoting countryside enjoyment and recreation;
  • enhancing awareness and understanding of and involvement in the countryside.

They also contribute to visitor provision and management as:

  • honey pots to absorb recreational pressures;
  • focal points for quiet countryside enjoyment;
  • gateways to the countryside through access routes, visitor information, environmental interpretation and education programmes;
  • bases for countryside management services operating the in the wider countryside.
